Mechanical Overhaul
This service returns the flute to “factory” or better mechanical condition. Turnaround time is usually 7 to 11 days.
Mechanical overhaul includes the following:
- Inspect flute and notate all key height openings
- Use pads appropriate to the instrument - soft, firm, synthetic, or Straubinger
- Inspect flute and notate all key height openings
- Bathe the flute body, head joint
- Degrease mechanisms
- Hand polish handmade and precious metal flutes
- Straighten and polish hinge rods
- De-dent flute
- Straighten body tube
- Check and adjust tenon fits
- Level tone holes, minimal surface dressing
- Pressure test soldered tone holes ensuring airtight seal
- Align posts and hinge rods for precise fit
- Repair or replace pivots as required
- Replace springs as required - custom spring tensioning available with customer pickup only
- Replace all pads and felts
- Shim pads for airtight seal
- Set pad heights ensuring proper venting
- Fit head cork to taper of head joint (stoppers available at customer request and expense)
- Play test flute

**Note: Any and all excessive key fitting/dent work/tone hole leveling will be billed at $60/hr.**
